The Exchange Hotel

Welcome to the Q-Bar

Q Sydney opened its doors in November of 1993 and has just passed its 15th birthday. From day one it has found a place in the hearts and minds of Sydney club goers. With a philosophy of being a venue that caters to everybody from the fun loving patron through to the ultra celebrity, it has managed to maintain a consistency normally unheard of in the life span of clubs. The concept of Q was to step away from a dedicated style and provide an alternative for people looking for a place to meet, talk, dance, have a drink, play a game of pinball or pool or more generally just to have fun. Many have commented on how comfortable they feel in the venue, which means that Q has hit its mark. In an environment of other venues throwing millions of dollars at development, Q, although always upgrading, has maintained a very bohemian feel which translates back to its original philosophy.

Q has played host to many a celebrity and too many to mention, from Kylie to Elle to the Crown Prince of Denmark, from Eddie Vedder to Lawrence Fishburne to Ice T to Boy George to Bono,Drew Barrymore and Matthew McConaughey, all have managed to enjoy an anonymity and a freedom that only Q can provide.

Boy & Bear is a four-piece act from Old Sydney Town. In early 2009 Jake Tarasenko (bass), Dave Hosking (lead vocals/guitar), Killian Gavin (vocals/guitars) and Tim Hart (drums/vocals) were brought together under the auspices of a unique partnership that has fostered a celebratory, multi-instrumental blend of folk and alt-country. Crooning vocals lift over tangibly raw, plodding guitar twangs and chugging percussion, subtly reminiscent of 70s folk ballads with an infectious velocity and richness that unveils itself as each song is played. Their sound has often been likened to that of Iron and Wine, Fleet Foxes and The Shins.

I think this is brilliant. Simple as that.

I'm completely enamoured of this song. I love the Appalachian folk vibe and beautiful choral vocals that appear at the beginning and end...

SATURDAY february 13th "look right"

Kick on after Good Vibes with tha man like Douster at Look Right. Having switched on industry tastemakers with a string of singles, videos, radical reworks & infectious remixes Douster is set to blow up in 2010 as his music and name disseminates to the masses – Sinden has tagged him “Next level", while Diplo acknowledges “[he’s] one of my favourite producers at the moment". Douster is published on Teki Latex’s Sound Pellegrino label, Sweat It Out and Man Recordings with material impending on Mad Decent; he's found a niche where the tropical sounds of cumbia, kuduro, and dancehall collide with glitch, electro, hip hop and fidget house.
